Precious Friendships

Recently I had lunch on a gorgeous sunny day in London with a fellow writer, and we were discussing amongst many things, the value of female friendships. She asked, "Do you have any sister's?" To which I replied, "No." "Nor do I," she said. "That's why I think we value our female friends so much!" My friend's comment were a good point, and later had me reflecting on my female friends and what they mean to me. I've known some of my friends for forty years or more ~ a lifetime. It would be true to say that there have been times when life has got in the way and contact with each other has been less often than I would have liked. Always on next meeting we pick up where we left off, as though

Longing

"Longing is a mind game and that is why I've always trusted it. Longing is raw, longing is real; it makes one listen and be attentive to what's inside. There is mad honesty in longing. So mad that it feels suitable. It is very suitable to me, I'm telling you ~ I don't even want to write it or write about it, I want to be it." Anne Sexton. Anne Sexton was an American poet, known for her confessional verse. This quote sums up Jen's feelings so well in The Longing. Jen longs for a family of her own to right the wrongs of her past. It's a longing so raw and visceral. She'll do almost anything to achieve her aim. Jen's longing takes her over as she listens to her inner thoughts that drive her

Dickens Festival Weekend in Rochester

The Dickens Festival in Rochester was held over three days last weekend ~ fun for all the family! I don't know who the street actors are! See also www.medway.gov.uk/dickensfestival for more information on this event, and what to do around Medway. The next Dickens Festival in Rochester will be the Christmas Dickens festival in December. This coming weekend 17th / 18th June is the Dickens Festival in Broadstairs, Kent. Dickens by the sea!

Monday!

It's Monday afternoon, two days after arriving back home from a week's holiday in Dartmouth, Devon. Not to put too fine a point on it, I'm knackered after a boisterous, fun week with my two teenage nephews! It was a week free from writing, and reading for that matter, and feel revived and ready to start planning my second novel anew.
